Our history

Company

The Tuscan farm Campo del Monte was founded in 1978 by Benito Mantellini. Benito, who was a great Italian and French wines lover, decided to buy the property and to begin the hard but exciting journey of making high quality Tuscan wines in a so special area, Valdarno di Sopra, that had also been included in the first historic Italian wine “appellation” statement, released by Cosimo III de’ Medici in 1716.

In the Valdarno di Sopra, the composition of the clayey and loamy soil and the proximity of the Pratomagno mountain make the area an ideal place for wine production. It is precisely here that Benito plants the first Sangiovese vineyards and begins producing bulk wine. The leap in quality occurred during the 80s, when the company offered bottles of Chianti DOCG for the first time.

The family at the center of the project

Since 1994, the winery has been managed by Paola and Giovanna and the son Stefano.

Stefano Mantellini has been leading the wine production and the winery’s growth. He began to plant new vineyards, introducing the Cabernet Sauvignon in 1997, new Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah vineyards in the following years. During early 2000’s, Campo del Monte started to produce also two white wines: Chardonnay and the Tuscan Malvasia Bianca Lunga.

In 2003, Stefano came out with the first vintage of the winery’s Supertuscan Isei.

Over the decades, the knowledge, knowledge and art of winemaking have been passed down from generation to generation, creating a rich legacy that today defines the identity of Campo del Monte, an identity that today continues to live and enrich itself with the entry into the company of Benito’s grandchildren, who will have the task of facing the challenges that the future holds for them, always maintaining a close link with the past and with the family
